We went to the Santa Monica pier and to Venice beach (through Muscle beach) today, Nakhee and I. At the pier I pointed at the horizon, which means I was pointing directly to Japan, Osaka to be specific. Osaka is on about the same latitude as L.A.(34°) but there's about 9000 kilometres of ocean in between, just ocean, a big, big bucket of water. It is also exactly 9000 kilometres from my house to Los Angeles. The widest part of the Pacific ocean is about 17.700 kilometres wide. The earths circumference is 40,000 kilometres. Not that all this means anything, by the way.

I got terribly sunburned. My clothes hurt. But I saw a couple of pelicans flying in the wild, which was quite fantastic. Unfortunately my camera got confused by the endless bright sky. The photos of those birds are too blurred to use here.
The car seems to have been fixed, although I'm still a bit paranoid about the watercooler (I'm checking it everytime I park somewhere).
