35

Today (well, technically yesterday actually, because of the nine hours of time difference between Europe and California) it's my birthday and now I'm 35 years old, which means that according to some rules and restrictions regarding to several art-prizes and grants I've officially lost my status of being a 'young artist'. So. Well.

Yesterday I went with Brian, Nakhee and some of Brians friends to see the latest Harry Potter movie. After watching Harry Potter I always feel a bit disappointed because the 'real' world is so incredibly ordinairy. Lights in the real world need cables and are subdued to gravity laws for instance. In Harry Potter lights can fly around and such.

Despite this disapointment in real life (pf) I had a great time because the theatre we went to see the movie in was absolutely breathtaking. It was the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood blvd., in front of it there are all these hands and feetprints of famous people in these concrete tiles. With their autographs and such. It's a major tourist-attraction but for some reason nobody gets inside the theater itself.

The photo above shows a part of the ladies restroom (!)

One of Brian's friends is called Tan and he's from Thailand. After the movie he took us to Palms, a Thai restaurant also on Hollywood blv. He ordered for all of us and it was incredible, especially the coconutsoup swept me off of my chair so to speak. Go to Palms if you're ever around (and take Tan with you).

There was a Thai Elvis entertaining us. He wore high heels. He wasn't that good. The guy next to Nakhee (I forgot his name...) is a toy-designer for Mattel. Apparently there's a toy-design-academy somewhere and he graduated from it. He assured me that being a toy-designer is not that much fun. I still find that hard to believe, especially sinds the guy looked really happy.

Today I was drawing a bit and then I went for a bikeride to get some coffee beans (the 'Volcano'beans Nakhee bought last sunday at Trader Joe's seem to have magically disappeared). I chose to buy beans named 'Bitches Brew'. I tried this coffee at the coffeeplace that selled these beans but the coffee tasted like coffee flavoured tea - like most coffees in public places in Los Angeles. I think I can make them work the way they're supposed to.

Then I went to explore Toy Town where all toy shops are (convenient! this LA naming-of-areas-and-stick-to-the-content-of-the-particular-name-thing). I got so overwhelmed I forgot to take photos. Too much, too much. I just took this one:
